“…Bruce Beresford has created an outstanding period piece which recalls the potent eloquence of his 1980 film Breaker Morant.” — Greg Kerr, Australian Film 1978-1992

Bruce Beresford’s career has taken him to a dozen countries and any number of exotic locations, but none more so than this venture to the wilds of Canada, for an adaptation of Brian Moore’s novel about the 17th century imposition of Christianity on Canada’s Indigenous population. Black Robe won five Canadian Genie Awards including for Best Film, and the Australian Film Institute Award for Best Cinematography. A new restoration, prepared as part of the NFSA Restores program, took almost a decade to be brought to fruition.
